Free give away with all heating oil tank orders

The Daily Mail has recently reported on an EU ruling for lower sulphur heating oil in an attempt to reduce greenhouse gases. The results being that the Great British Aga and other oil vaporiser range cookers are clogging up and being staved of fuel.

We do have the solution! With every bunded heating oil tank sold on our website we will give 500ml of the oil additive ‘Fuel Set’ which is enough to treat 2000 litres of heating oil. Using Fuel Set in your heating oil tank will keep your Aga and central heating boiler cleaner, which can help reduce unscheduled service costs due to brake downs and allow the boiler to run more efficiently. Not only that but by adding Fuel Set to your oil tank at each fill up will clean and remove water from the oil tank and oil supply pipe and reduce harmful emissions.

Fuel Set is the additive our services engineers use when we are called out to cure a ‘water in the tank’ problem, so we know the claimed result do work from our own experience. Typically we dip the oil tank with a water detection paste, then remove as much of the water as possible using a vacuum pump. We also clean the oil filter and blow the oil supply pipe to remove any debris that may have collected over time. By adding Fuel Set we are assured that any remaining water present in the oil will be absorbed into the oil and burnt off harmlessly in the combustion process.

Feel free to contact us phone or email if you would like any further details, you can read the Daily Mail article by clicking on the link below.

Oil Tank Installation

Published on the Environment Agency web site.

“Environment Agency bosses in the South are urging businesses and individuals to seek advice about potential environmental problems and safety impacts that may come during the thaw.”

“It’s important that we offer guidance where necessary and reassurance when needed,” explained Toby Willison the Environment Agency’s regional director for the south. “We work closely with all our business partners to ensure the environment is protected whatever the weather. However, individuals also need to be clear on the things they can do to protect themselves and the environment, even if it’s simple advice such as regularly checking pipes for damage.”

“Home owners across the south east who use heating oil are being urged to check their tanks and pipes to avoid pollution. Many people in Kent, Sussex and Hampshire, particularly in rural areas, burn heating oil to warm their homes and business premises.”

“Every winter there are several incidents of leaks from heating oil tanks in the region, resulting in oil seeping into the ground. This can have a devastating effect on the local environment, especially if the oil travels through the rock and into the water stored under the ground.”

“Problems with oil tanks can also have a devastating effect on homeowners as clean up costs can run in the tens of thousands of pounds, with these costs not always covered by home insurance policies. The clean-up operation can also involve the excavation of large areas of gardens and driveways to clean out leaked oil.”

As part of its advisory role, the Environment Agency has a simple message for businesses and consumers. If you need advice and support – or if you have any concerns regarding pollution or flooding - call on the following numbers:
• For businesses: National Customer Contact Centre: 24hr: 08708 506 506
• For consumers: Environment Agency: 24hr incident hotline: 0800 80 70 60
• For all: Floodline: 24hr: 0845 988 1188

Southern Tank Services Ltd. has OFTEC qualified engineers employed to check the condition of oil tanks and oil tank pipes, gauges and ancillary equipment, call us on 01985 248555 if you have any doubts about the condition of your oil tank installation and would like one of our engineers to assess its condition.

Southern Tank Services visit Harlequin Plastics oil tank factory.

Southern Tank Services Ltd. two directors, Ross Cowan and Chris Ford, were invited to visit leading oil tank manufacturer, Clarehill Plastics Ltd. manufacturer of the Harlequin Oil Tank brand, at their factory and head office in Moira, Northern Ireland.

Since 1981, Clarehill has pioneered the development of rotationally moulded oil tanks and other environmental containers. Today, Clarehill is firmly established as the country's truly independent manufacturer of rotationally moulded fuel storage products, under the Harlequin brand.
Operating from purpose built production and distribution facilities in the heart of Northern Ireland, Clarehill services a diverse and demanding customer base throughout the United Kingdom and Europe. The Harlequin range consists of over 200 different models, including tanks for BioDiesel, Diesel, Heating Oil, Non Potable Water, Potable Water, Waste Oils and Lubricants and a range of bunker storage solutions for Coal, Grit and Road Salt.

As a business, Clarehill differentiates itself through its products and services that exceed the highest expectations of its customers. Clarehill was the first plastic tank manufacturer in the United Kingdom to achieve BS5750 Quality Management accreditation. And today, all products are manufactured in a UKAS accredited ISO9001:2000, ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 approved production environment being engineered to exceed the toughest environmental, statutory and technical requirements.

As a leading member of OFTEC - The Oil Firing Technical Association and the Federation of Petroleum Suppliers, Clarehill takes its obligations to the industries and communities in which it trades seriously. As well as working to ensure compliance with the manufacturing requirements of OFTEC's OFS T100 Standard - the only independently recognised standard for rotationally moulded single skin and bunded plastic oil tanks in the EU - Clarehill also works to ensure compliance with local product standards in key overseas markets.

Clarehill has a Sales, Marketing and Business Development Team covering Western Europe, complemented by a team of Area Sales Managers across the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland, and strategic distributors in key overseas markets. Recent investments in people, plant, processes and products ensure that Clarehill is particularly well positioned to benefit from an ever changing dynamic and demanding sectors in which the business operates.

"During the day long visit we were able to see every stage of the manufacturing process from the design office through to the polymer being ground and mixed, the moulds and the rotational moulding ovens and machines used to make the oil tanks to the finished tanks and the quality control systems used during the complete manufacturing process. This opportunity has given us an even better understanding of how an oil tank is made, seeing the fitting and outlet being moulded in the tank and the 'polishing' finish was very interesting."

"Not only did we get to see the manufacturing process, we were able to learn about the distribution side of the business too, ensuring each customer receives the correct tank at the correct time."

"We would just like to thank everyone at Harlequin's factory for opening their doors to us and the kind hospitality shown during our entire trip."

Winter's coming!

Winter is on it's way, it's now a good time to check the condition of your oil tank when you check your oil level. If you have a steel oil tank, have a good look on the under side, at the supporting piers and check the pipework for damage and leaks. It's also a good idea to remove any organic material that has fallen from surrounding trees and bushes as this can attract damp and insects which can fall in through the vent and block the filters and supply pipes.

If you have any concerns, feel free to call us and talk to one of our qualified OFTEC enginneers.
