‘Pipe in pipe’ double skin bunded pipework – fuel oils

Twin walled pipe, which is also known as pipe in pipe or bunded pipework, is a secondary contained pipe system which has become an industry standard. The inner and outer pipes are made from high density polyethene (HDPE) for extra environmental protection, therefore making them ideal for underground petroleum, fuel oils and chemical pipework.

Our qualified installation engineers, certified by Franklin Fuelling, are experienced in installing the UPP (Universal Petro Pipe) pipework system.  This HDPE pipe is an electro-welded system and comes complete with leak detection capability, in other words providing the highest levels of environmental protection.

Advantages of bunded pipework

  • Double wall, pipe in pipe manufactured in HDPE has many advantages over traditional steel pipe.  This is in contrast to other pipework with mechanical joints, which is a classic weak point in most pipe systems.  Other advantages include:
  • Longer coil lengths (up to 100m) allow for fewer joints, faster installation and sweeping bends.
  • Fewer joints mean fewer points of failure in piping systems and a more reliable fuel system.
  • Electro-fusion welding ‘Gemini System’ for fast installation and strong, leak-proof assemblies.  This allows for direct burial and no need for inspection chambers.
  • HDPE pipes are corrosion resistant, unlike their steel counterparts.
  • Integral EVOH liner gives great chemical compatibility for hydrocarbon and alcohol-based fuels, AdBlue and de-icer.
  • Smooth bore gives low resistances for efficient pumping.
  • The unique system brings unmatched resistance to ground movement.
  • ‘Over pressure’ leak detection provides for the highest levels of environmental protection and continuous monitoring.

Fuel Delivery Pipe

The primary pipe allows for the safe transfer of fuel within the fuel delivery system.  The principal function of this is to connect the bulk fuel tank to the dispensing pumps, day tank or appliances. The flexible pipe and fittings allow for curves and gradual bends to your storage tank.  We do have tee fittings and elbows for branching the pipe and confined transitions.

Leak Detection

Our trained and qualified engineers have experience in installing this system, including pressure testing and certifying the installation. We also install industry-leading Mapress pipe in stainless steel with specific seals for the media being piped.
