Diesel testing and polishing – what is the fuel polishing system?

Information is key. Our first task is to analyse your diesel and test for water and particle contaminants. Using a portable laser particle counter with a moisture sensor, we test the diesel to ISO4406 and give the sample a cleanliness code.  From this data, we provide a solution to ensure the stored fuel supply is ready for your critical demand.

We double-check that your diesel is clean and free from dissolved, emulsified and free water content.  We conduct fuel tests until the diesel is thoroughly cleaned with the fuel analyser. This ensures the diesel fuel is clean to ISO4406 code 18/16/13 and back to EN590 standards.

Eliminating microbial growth

Our custom-fabricated fuel polishing equipment can eliminate up to 98% of all bacteria by cleaning oil down to a sub-microscopic 0.5 Microns.  This eradicates Diesel Bug from your fuel, protecting your equipment and infrastructure and thereby eliminating microbial growth from your storage tank, both now and in the future.

Do you know if fuel polishing works?

Yes, but only when done correctly.  We understand that diesel fuel will be burnt anyway, so why bother cleaning it first? The cleaner the fuel is, the more efficient the engine that burns it can be.

What is the best fuel tank cleaner?

There are a few different methods to remove water from your tank, most of which we supply. A water removal sock is probably the most basic system. This is effectively a tube with a water-absorbent material whereby the water separates from the fuel and leaves the diesel behind.

Depending on the model you get, these water removal kits can absorb up to 1590ml of water from the fuel. However, if you have more significant contamination in your tank, you may need to invest in a robust filtration system. Adding a recirculation unit can be very costly, especially if it’s just one-time contamination.

Why do we test for water presence in a generator’s fuel tank?

Water could be better for generators. Any fuel-burning appliance will suffer if water ingresses into the fuel. When water passes through instead, the tight tolerances of the equipment allow metal surfaces to touch each other without lubrication. This causes otherwise avoidable wear and tear to the pump, solenoid valves and fuel injection system. In a diesel generator, the fuel forms a part of the lubrication process, keeping components like the injector pump healthy.
